General Notes
This course is an ongoing continuation from previous years and aims to introduce an in depth training (but NOT teacher training) in Tibetan Healing Exercises (THE). New students can join at any time.
The course is suitable for:
- Past and existing students of THE who wish to deepen their practice and study the Buddhist background.
- Serious students and teachers of Hatha Yoga who are willing to explore how the Buddhist principles of THE can profoundly affect their practice of Yoga, meditation and lifestyle.
- For BWY teachers, this course may count towards your CPD requirements. See BWY website.
New students are welcome and will be ‘eased’ into the course during the first two sessions.
During the course we will:
- Practice a progressive range of movement and self-massage exercises, Pranayama, visualisation, chanting and meditation, including the short Healing Buddha sadhana.
- Study and reflect on the Buddhist principles which underpin these exercises.
- Study Lojong (Mind Training) which includes Tonglen (Taking and Sending). We will continue the verse by verse study of Shantideva’s Bodhicharyavatara, the Way of the Bodhisattva (as recommended by Thrangu Rinpoche)
- Study and practice the progressive stages of meditation according to the Mahamudra tradition.
Participants are encouraged to do some home study and practice between sessions.
Course Content (provisional)
Two whole day Sundays per term. Venue: Cumnor Old School, near Oxford.
Morning sessions are mostly practical, and usually include Bodhicitta, Purification breathing, movement exercise, Pranayama and meditation.
Early afternoon: Introduction of Lojong, Mahamudra meditation and verses from Bodhicharyavatara and of how these can be applied to the exercises and to our lifestyle (conduct).
Late afternoon: mostly practical, including deepened Pranayama, meditation, occasional Healing Buddha practice, and ‘Dedication of Merit’
Each day will include extensive opportunities for feedback and discussion
