General Notes
This is an ongoing course, with a new intake of students every April. It is held in memory of Maarten’s intensive study time with the late Robert Van Heeckeren in Holland, and is dedicated to learning/reviewing parts of the ‘Six Hour’ Asana sequence.
The course includes several whole day sessions to cover the entire Six Hour Sequence. For qualified teachers wishing to teach the sequence there will be additional training.
Most afternoon sessions will be dedicated to the introduction and review of Pranayama, Mudra and relevant Yogic meditations, and to the deepening of these practices for long term students.
By focusing on specifically the Asana, Pranayama and Mudra elements of Hatha Yoga we will learn to experience the joy and delight of our embodiment. This can greatly inspire us in the practice of Meditation, the progression of which we will explore according to the stages of the Buddhist Mahamudra. If time permits we will also reflect on the wider applications of our practice through the study of the Buddhist Lojong (Mind Training).
The course is suitable for:
- any serious, experienced Yoga student who practises regularly, including those who have completed a BWY Foundation Course or equivalent, and non-BWY Teachers
- students on a Yoga Teaching Diploma Course
- BWY Diploma holders, for whom the course may count as CPD
- Yoga teachers who have worked with Maarten before, and wish to train to teach the Six Hour Sequence
Course Outline (provisional)
Two or three whole day Sundays per term. Venue: Cumnor Old School, near Oxford
All morning Yoga sessions will usually include purification breathing, limbering or Surya Namaskar, part of the ‘Six Hour’ Asana sequence , relaxation, and meditation.
The afternoon sessions (2 - 5 pm) will introduce and expand on the the practice of Pranayama, Mudra, and Mahamudra Meditation, and encourage the study of Lojong (Maind Training)
Each day will provide extensive opportunities for feedback, discussion, and individual tutorials.
